I am a senior at the College of William & Mary, where I am majoring in International Relations. I have a passion for traveling, which has taken me to study abroad programs in Italy and Peru. In Peru, I participated in sustainable development projects with ProWorld Service Corps in addition to taking classes. My interests in international public health, human rights, and the intersection between these areas and development are the catalysts for my involvement in William & Mary's Student Organization for Medical Outreach and Sustainability (SOMOS), with which I have traveled three times to the Dominican Republic to do clinical work as well as ethnographic research on public health issues in the community. Closer to home, I have worked on immigrants' rights and access to services through the Network for Latino People in Norge, VA, and with global women's rights/economic development and U.S. policy at Women Thrive Worldwide. After graduation, I hope to take a little time off for more travel and public health work before pursuing an MD/MPH. Eventually, I plan to integrate direct medical service overseas and here in the U.S. with international health policy. I would like to see international development become more of a rights-based pursuit rather than an economic one, and my education in International Relations has taught me that this approach is essential to both global justice and international security.
