Brian Harding is a research associate in the International Security Program (ISP) at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), where he primarily focuses on Southeast Asia and Japan. Prior to joining CSIS, he was a Fulbright fellow in Indonesia, where he studied the significance of Chinese Indonesians in the China-Indonesia bilateral relationship and served as codirector of the Institute for Historical Justice and Reconciliation’s Indonesia initiative. Previously, he was a research assistant for Improving the Nation’s Security Decisions project, a research assistant at the National Defense University’s Institute for National Strategic Studies (INSS), an intern with ISP, and a volunteer English teacher in Nong Khai, Thailand. His writings have appeared in China Brief, the Indonesia-based Jurnal Nasional, and Wold Politics Review. He holds a B.A. in history and Japan studies from Middlebury College and an M.A. in Asian studies from the Elliott School at George Washington University.
